some interesting amvs
originally posted on
i've been searching for amvs that use music i wouldn't typically associate with amvs to contribute to the one amv for every song in the top 10k thread on rym. these are some cool ones i've found along the way that don't qualify!
searching has been pretty fun so far - it's very cool to think of a track you'd think that surely nobody would make an amv to and see that someone did like 18 years ago.
10k rejects
tracks that are in the top 10k but aren't really full-on amvs
autechre - gantz graf
it's awesome that this exists.
dj shadow - stem / long stem
sort of a surprising choice for an amv (unsurprisingly it doesn't include all of the song)
compilation of boards of canada - geogaddi
there is a surprising lack of geogaddi amvs in my experience so far. why is this? i feel like 1969 or julie and candy should be pretty editable…
death grips - steroids
no embed for this one since playback on other websites is disabled. not a true amv but it's hilarious (and i applaud the audacity of a 22 minute amv). i had no idea this series existed before this.
nicher titles
tracks that are not in the top 10k
dreamcrusher - youth problem
no embed because age restriction (it's the more violent part of end of evangelion). already cool that a dreamcrusher amv exists, but this fits super well too.
xanopticon - broken eye teeth
awesome that this exists. the glitchy like datamoshing effects really complements the track well
seefeel - fracture
such an eerie choice for an AMV and it works so well. lots of really cool editing tricks in this one and it's impressive how it remains lo-fi in a sense while still experimenting a bunch
fading away (telefon tel aviv version) - nitrada, telefon tel aviv
wow!! i did not expect any results whatsoever when searching telefon tel aviv. i wasn't familiar with this remix either. super cool stuff.
bajofondo tango club - infiltrado
another one i never would have guessed existed. not really a proper full-length amv but still
sun ra - space aura
not a lot of jazz amvs out there to begin with, so to find some sun ra is pretty cool! this channel has two other sun ra amvs as well
dizzee rascal - stop dat
the only dizzee rascal amv i can find. it's a real tragedy that there isn't one for i luv u.
autechre - augmatic disport
this is what led me to the gantz graf evangelion amv
autechre - second bad vibel
there's a consistent trend of some of the hardest to edit tracks being picked for autechre amvs. go big or go home i guess!
boards of canada - hi scores
i was shocked to learn hi scores is not in the rym top 10k songs.
curve - horror head
also crazy that horror head is not in the rym top 10k. lain is a strange choice but it works!
iglooghost - sylph fossil
modern but really awesome editing here. imagery fits super well
daft punk - too long
there's also a follow-up from the same person. this means that somehow there are two full-length too long amvs but seemingly only one full-length da funk amv. what a strange world we live in
너 땜에 맘이 맘이 맘이 맘이 괴로워요 - death's dynamic shroud
pretty interesting that this song was used for a digimon amv! i like how it isn't obviously dark or vaporwavey visuals.
el-p - true story
an amv officially made by toonami that aired sometime in 2012! pretty well edited. there's also a com truise amv by them.
saint pepsi - private caller
i would never associate this song with evangelion normally it's pretty funny how well it works
